March 20th, the first day of Spring, is just around the corner! Tradition would have most of us getting ready to gear up for, what I call, spring cleaning. I understand the word tradition is taboo for us millennials, but I promise not all traditions are bad. Whether you need to unclutter your garage, attic, or storage unit, you have to get your house in order. That same principle should apply in all areas of your life. I want to challenge you to go a step further and think about doing a little spring cleaning for your business and your brand. It is time to get those hands dirty and unclutter your brand so that it can remain easily recognizable and identifiable to your target audience. I have created a three-part series to help you unclutter your brand over the next few weeks.
This week I want to share how you can unclutter your brand & business with your social media platforms. If you have read any of my blog posts, then you know that I am very millennial & digitally driven. The fact remains, we live in the digital age. Social media plays a huge role in the success of today’s businesses.
Here are two quick ways to unclutter your social media profiles.
1. Delete, Delete, Delete!
Whether you are using a personal account or professional account for your business, we tend to abuse our social media platforms. The idea is to post relevant content. As the months go by, you will notice a slight evolution in your brand. It is inevitable because people change, products change, and services change. For those that offer advice, there is a chance that your advice will become outdated. Don’t be afraid to delete those old posts, pictures, and comments that are not in line with your current brand message.
2. Be Easily Accessible
If I can not identify your profession within two seconds of being on your profile then you have a significant problem. There have been too many occasions where I have visited someone’s social media profile in hopes to find their website. However, I was met with outdated information. Everything about your profile should speak to your expertise and field of choice. Of course, you should always sprinkle a little personality so that you are more relatable. However, your email, website, and profession should be easily accessible to potential clients and employers. In other words, remove irrelevant information and make your business the primary focus of your social media profile.
That is it! Easy huh? Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but my advice is to always stay up-to-date. Take a few moments to clean up your social media profiles. Your clients will appreciate it and employers will love it.
